Sivasangari Subramaniam clinched her first title of the season at the Silicon Valley Squash Open. The world No. 4 defeated Farida Mohamed of Egypt 11-7, 11-6, 11-8 in just 31 minutes in Redwood City, California.
In the men’s competition, it was a second title in four events for Egypt’s 19-year-old Mohamad Zakaria. He took out No.3 seed Victor Crouin in straight games 11-5, 11-8, 11-3 to lift the second Gold event title of his career.
Third seed Sivasangari clinched the gold-level event title on her second attempt after finishing runner-up to American Olivia Weaver last year.
“I told myself, ‘I want to break through and go into the semis of the Platinum events’, which I’ve already done at the start of this season. So now I have to go one step higher and try to win a Platinum.” said Sivasangari.
It was Sivasangari’s fourth title this year and her third on the PSA Squash Tour. She won the Australian Open in March before adding the Grasshopper Cup in Zurich in April.
Last month, Sivasangari successfully defended her Asian Games title in Japan, a victory that also earned her a ticket to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
