Hosts Thailand regained the ASEAN Futsal Championship title when they beat Indonesia 2-1 in the final at the Central Stadium in Nonthaburi Province.
It was Thailand’s unprecedented 17th title in the series since its inception in 2021. Indonesia’s hope of defending the title they won two years was denied by Thailand, who came back from a goal down to carve out the victory.
Indonesia took the lead through Andres Putra in the in the 16th minute. However, Thailand drew level late in the first half after Indonesia conceded a penalty. Thai captain Itticha Praphan converedt the spot kick just before the break to put the tie on level terms.
And just when Indonesia thought they had a fighting chance to defend the crown, Panasom Kittiphanuong fired in the 31st-minute winner to give Thailand the win and the crown.
Meanwhile, Vietnam finished third after beating Australia 4-0 in the classification match.
Nhan Gia Hung took just three minutes to give Vietnam the lead, to be followed by goals from Chau Doan Phat (18th), Nguyen Thinh Phat (21st) and Pham Van Tu (39th).
