It was a glorious day for the Vietnamese juniors as the bagged both the doubles titles at the ITF Asia Under-14 Development Championships at the Morodok Tennis Complex.
Unfortunately for Singapore it was their pairs that were at the receiving end.
Third seeds Vu Thuan Pong-Le Pu Gia clinched the boy’s doubles title defeating top seeded Leon Ho Wei Xin-Nicholas Ming En Pak 6-4, 6-4.
The girl’s doubles final went according to the seedings with top seeds Nguyen Linh Nhi-To Binh Nhieh edging out second seeds Wang Zixi-Hannah Tay 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.
One half of both men’s doubles finalists will be back in action tomorrow for the boy’s singles final.
Leon will be up against Phu Gia in the final, with the former hoping for redemption.
But Phu Gia will not be an easy prey. The Vietnamese had beaten Nicholas Ming, the singles top seed in the quarter-finals.
Leon, the second seed, will need to bring his A game and hope Phu Gia is rattled early on to harbor hopes of ending the tournament with the title to his name.
In the semi-finals, Leon defeated Tuan Phong 6-0, 6-7 (5) while Phu Gia had a much easier team n disposing of Filipino Alexi Luca Rafael Aldemita 6-2, 6-1.
Pocket dynamite FilipinaMaristella Torrecampo will be looking to upgrade the silver she won at the championships last year when she plays in the girls singles final tomorrow.
The third seeded Maristella was in an uncompromising mood as she dismantled top seed To Binh Nhieh of Vietnam 6-0, 6-1 in the semi-finals.
She will take on Mongolia’s Asiata Enkhzaya Adama in the final. Asiata defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Linh Nhi 6-3, 6-3 in her semi-final match.
