Veteran Ouk Sreymom will not find it easy to reclaim the women’s singles title, she last won in 2017, at the Petanque World Championships starting tomorrow in Rome.
Sreymom, who came back with the bronze from the last championships in Benin two years ago, will have all the other medalist from that championships back in action.
Defending champion Mouna Beji of Tunisia, silver medalist Gidgia Ait Idir of Algeria and joint bronze medalist Nelly Peyre of France have all been included in their respective country squads.

Sreymom, the World Games dual champion, was beaten 10-13 by Gidgia in the semi-finals in Benin. She had qualified for the knockout stages after finishing 16th in the Swiss System qualifying rounds.
The 50-year-old veteran had also won the gold in the women’s precision world title at Spain 2021.
Sreymon was also part of the Cambodia team that won the Triples bronze when the championships was held in Phnom Penh in 2019 and in China two years earlier and in France in 2013. Only she and Un Sreya are still in the team for the challenge in Rome this time.
