Thorbjornsen rockets to maiden title

Michael Thorbjornsen shot a 7-under 63 and reach 18 under to win his first PGA TOUR title by two shots at the Rocket Classic.

The 24-year-old’s first victory in 65 starts sees him become the eighth first-time winner on the Tour this season. He had entered the final round four strokes back but carded a bogey-free round to claim the two-stroke victory over Xander Schauffele.

His 262 total also matched the 72-hole tournament scoring record with Tony Finau in 2022.

Thorbjornsen surged into the lead at No. 14 with his third of four birdies in a six-hole stretch and closed with a clutch putt.

Making his Rocket Classic debut, 10-time PGA TOUR winner Schauffele, led briefly on the final day, but his final round 65 saw him finish runners-up for the 16th time in his career.

Overnight leader Davis Riley (3^rd/-15) recorded his best finish since the 2025 PGA Championship and second top-10 of the season with a final round of 70.

With rounds of 69-68-61-68, five-time winner on the DP World Tour Rasmus Højgaard (4^th/-14) finishes solo-fourth.

At the conclusion of next week’s Wyndham Championship, the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings will qualify for the first event of the Playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship (Aug. 13-16)
