Just two months prior to the start of the biennial SEA Games in Thailand, the Games mascot has seen an overhaul.
From colourful mascots, known as The Sans, drawing inspiration from traditional Thai weaving and basketry, the mascots will now feature only the Thai flag colours.
The organizers replaced the original seven colorful characters with two new figures featuring the colors of the Thai national flag much to the surprise of the sports fraternity.
Designed to symbolize unity, strength, and friendship among Southeast Asian nations, the seven colorful characters represented the days of the week in Thai tradition. Five were designated for the SEA Games and two for the ASEAN Para Games.
Atthakorn Sirilattayakorn, the Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports had directed that directed that the mascots be streamlined into a single character for the SEA Games and a single character for the ASEAN Para Games.
The new version of The San will serve as the official mascot at medal ceremonies and other key events throughout the competitions. Meanwhile, the original “7 Days, 7 Colors” mascots will continue to be produced as souvenirs and merchandise.
Thailand will host the 33rd SEA Games from 9 to 20 December, followed by the 13th ASEAN Para Games from 20 to 26 January 2026, taking place across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.
