Rakshita Sree Santhosh Ramraj
Teenagers Rakshita Sree Santhosh Ramraj of India and Richie Duta Richardo of Indonesia clinched their third BWF International Series titles at the Vietnam International badminton championships in Hanoi.
Rakshita, who will turn 19 next week, gave herself an advance birthday gift after she defeated Hong Kong’s Happy Lo Sin Yan of Hong Kong in the women’s singles final.
The second seeded Indian lass battled almost an hour before picking up a hard-earned 16-21, 21-15, 21-16 for the crown.
Rakshita’s previous wins on the circuit came at the India International and Slovenia Open two years ago.
Richie claimed the men’s singles title with a clinical 21-13, 21-14 win over Korea’s Kim Hae-deun. The 13th seed was in full control of the final that lasted just 39-minutes.
The Indonesian lad had won the Thailand International last year and the Malaysia International a year earlier.
The scratch duo of Gronya Somerville-Jospehine Wu battled it out with Japan’s Miki Kanehiro-Yuna Kato for the women’s doubles title. The Australian-Canadian pairing took a good 79-minutes to subdue their rivals 16-21, 21-19, 24-22.
The mixed doubles final was abandoned midway through the first game as seventh seeds Hiroki Midorikawa-Nami Matsuyama of Japan retired injured while leading 17-14 against Chan Yin Chak-Ng Tsz Yau of Hong Kong.
Chinese-Taipei won their sole title at the championships after a grueling encounter in the men’s doubles. Huang Tsung-I-Lin Ting-Yu were given a tough fight by Krishna Prasad Garaga-Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy before they won 26-24, 17-21, 21-18.
