Fallon Sherrock created history with victory at the ‘Beat Luke Littler’ event in Manchester to earn a staggering £501,000 prize on Friday evening.
Sherrock – the first woman to triumph on the World Darts Championship stage in 2019 – delivered another landmark moment to topple Littler at the Manchester Central Convention Complex.
The event saw 20 players of varying abilities lined up to face World Champion Littler across a single leg, with a prize of £501,000 on offer to the first player able to beat him.
Littler won 14 consecutive legs as he sought to complete the clean sweep, firing in a sublime 12-dart leg to deny teenage prodigy Jayden Walker – the youngest player in the field at the age of 14.
The world number one also overcame Australian jockey Zac Spain, Women’s Series star Katie Sheldon and binman Taylon Forrester, before surviving a match dart at the bull against young Irishman Pearse Mackle.
However, Sherrock ended his winning run in some style, following up a brilliant maximum by pinning double 20 to complete a 43 checkout and prevail with a 15-dart hold of throw.
“I’m just so proud of myself right now,” revealed an emotional Sherrock, who was eligible to compete in the event having never held a PDC Tour Card.
“This is so cut-throat because it was one leg, so it was definitely nerve-wracking.
“When I get opportunities, I always rise to the occasion, but I was just praying that double would go in to be honest!
“It’s the first time my son’s been to a darts tournament and he’s seen me win.
“I’m really lost for words. It’s a great moment and I’ll remember this forever.
“The money is absolutely life-changing. I think most of it will end up going on Rory [her son].
“As long as Rory is alright, that’s my main focus for my future, so this is definitely going to go towards that.”
