Meun Rothana failed to get past the group stages of the boys’s singles teqball competition at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.
Rothana started his campaign on a winning note, defeating Lebanon’s Radi Chebbo 12-7, 12-6 but could not keep up the momentum in his next two Group C matches.
He was outclassed 5-12, 4-12 in his second group match by Kuwaiti Naser Alsaqer.
In the crucial final group tie, Rothana was edged out 12-10, 7-12, 11-13 by a resurgent Muhammad Siddiqui of Pakistan.
With only the top two players in the group advancing to the quarter-final stages, Rothana could only finish third in the group.
Siddiqui topped the group with Alsaqer finishing second, with both players advancing to the last eight.
Rothana will be back in action in the boys’ doubles competition. He and partner Cheat Kheamravisoth will open their campaign in Group B against India’s Akash Singha-Rajib Barbhuiya.
The other pairs in the group include the Filipino duo of Nomar Andres-Fits Erece, Iraq’s Abulfadhel El Elayawi-Nooruldeen Khammas, Katanyu Potong-Ketsada Mahasaksit of Thailand and the Bahraini pair of Hussain Isa-Ali Hassan.
