Davis Riley holds the solo lead at 12 under after the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Riley, who was on a five-way tie atop the leaderboard after the second round, shot a third-round 3-under 67. He leads by two over the trio of Harry Hall, Chris Gotterup and Kevin Roy.
Three shots back are Ryan Gerard, John Parry and Nick Taylor, who won the championships in a playoff one year ago.
Riley was in his elements as the round progressed and went 4 under over his last seven holes to pull away from the field.
Riley rebounded from a bogey on the par-3 11th with a birdie on the par-4 12th. He hit a wedge inside 2 feet on the par-4 14th and made a 15-foot putt on the par-4 15th. On the par-5 18th, he ran his 60-foot putt 7 1/2 feet past and made the comebacker. Riley is at 12-under 198 and looking to.
The 29-year-old now seeks his third win on the Tour and his first since the Charles Schwab Challenge two years ago. He had also won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans/with partner Nick Hardy the previous year.
The best rounds came from Hideki Matsuyama, who won at Waialae in 2022, and Corey Conners, who each shot 5-under 65s, despite winds blowing in the 20 to 25 mph range. Harry Hall had the lone 4-under 66 on the day. There were 10 golfers who shot 3-under 67s, including the leader.
Hall, seeking to be the first English player to win here, is one of the 14 players in the field who advanced to the Tour finishing 17th in the FedExCup standings. Hall rebounded from a bogey on 15 with a birdie on 16. The 29-year-old won a playoff in the 2024 ISCO Championship for his lone PGA Tour title.
As for Gotterup, who is also in the chasing pack, he closed with a 10-foot birdie putt on 18. He is also seeking a third career win, having won the 2024 OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic and the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open.
Roy, the last of the three players just two shots adrift of Riley, is winless on the Tour. He had a share of the first-round lead with defending champion Nick Taylor and was part of a five-man logjam at the top after the second round on Friday with Riley, Taylor, S.H. Kim and Adrien Dumont de Chassart.
Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth birdied the 18th for his third 68 to reach 6 under while veteran Vijay Singh was 4-under after a 68. The 62-year-old Hall of Famer is using a one-time career money exemption to play in full-field events. He’s making his 25th start in the event he won in 2005.
