The second day of the 2026 Karate One Youth League Guadalajara brought more intense competition as hundreds of young athletes continued their quest for medals. The fifth event of the season saw the final Junior categories completed, while the first Cadet divisions also crowned their champions.
Isis Matos takes Junior Female -48 kg
Portugal’s Isis Matos claimed the Junior Female -48 kg title after a close final against Chile’s Tiare Lozano Valdes. Matos secured the gold medal with a 3-2 victory.
Leonor Gonçalves wins Junior Female -53 kg
Leonor Gonçalves of Portugal controlled the final in the Junior Female -53 kg category, defeating Chile’s Antonella Reveco 5-1 to take the title.
Hannah Bath Soendergaard wins by decision
Denmark’s Hannah Bath Soendergaard won the Junior Female -59 kg category after a scoreless final against Portugal’s Victoria Bazyuk. With the bout ending 0-0, Soendergaard was awarded the victory by Hantei, the judges’ decision.
Eros David Hernández García takes Junior Male -61 kg
Cuba’s Eros David Hernández García secured the Junior Male -61 kg gold medal in a tight final against Romania’s Daniel Nicolae Burnaz. Hernández García prevailed 2-1.
Kaito Daniel Yoshii Mizukami wins on home soil
Mexico’s Kaito Daniel Yoshii Mizukami delighted the home crowd by winning the Junior Male -68 kg category. He defeated Austria’s Oleksandr Cheban 5-2 in the final.
Mackenzie Mendonca opens Cadet titles
The first Cadet champions were also crowned on day two. In the Female -61 kg category, Mackenzie Mendonca of the United States defeated Mexico’s Melina Frias Cabral 2-1 to claim the gold medal.
Mihaela Arcalean wins Cadet Female 61+ kg
Mihaela Arcalean added another Cadet title for the United States in the Female 61+ kg category. She beat Spain’s Paula Ginés Chavarry 5-1 in the final.
Edmond Zhuo takes Cadet Male Kata title
The United States also claimed the Cadet Male Kata title through Edmond Zhuo. He faced compatriot Jeffrey Olaes in the final and secured a 3-2 victory.
