On paper it looks like a lop-sided contest for the men’s title at the PSA Squash Challenger Tour Chennai. Top seeded Malaysian Joachim Chuah is ranked 109 in the world while his final opponent is ranked 268.
But having accounted for the second and fourth seeds in the last two rounds, Egyptian Adham Roshdy cannot be taken lightly.
In the semi-finals today, after an early resistance defeated Canadian Salah Eltorgman, the fourth seed, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7. Adham had accounted for second seeded Suraj Kumar Chand of India in the quarter-finals.
The youngster is searching for his first title on the circuit when he takes on Joachim for the first time.
Joachim, was stretched to the limit by teammate Mohammad Syafiq Kamal in his semi-final tie. He had to battle for 65-minutes before edging out Syafiq 8-11, 10-12, 11-5, 12-10, 12-10.
The women’s final will see top seeded Rouqaia Othman of Egypt squaring off against South Korean Eum Hwa-yeong.
Rouqaia hs not dropped a set all week and eased into the final with a 11-4, 11-2, 11-5 win over fourth seeded Sanya Vats of India. It was a much harder entry inot the final for the sixth seeded Hwa-yeong. She overcame a gritty Hana Aladdin of Egypt 11-9, 9-11, 2-11, 11-4, 11-6 in her semi-final match.
