PV Sindhu defeated Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt
It was double delight for India as they swept the singles titles at the Hylo Open badminton championships.
P.V. Sindhu and Lakshya Sen claimed the women’s and men’s singles titles with comfortable ease respectively, at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrucken,Germany.
In the women’s singles title decider, Sindhu, the second seed took just 39 minutes to brush aside world No. 25 Line Kjærsfeldt of Denmark 21-12, 21-14.
Playing her second final on the trot, Sindhu took control of the match early. The first game was tied at five-all before Sindhu shifted gears and ran away with the opener.
In the second game, the World Number eight, who had lost just once to her Danish opponent in seven meetings heading into the final match, never fell behind and comfortably wrapped up the BWF Super 500 title.
“I think it was important for me to give my 100% irrespective of who the opponent was. We’ve played a lot of times and for me it was important that I focused on every point. I think I took the lead from the beginning and I didn’t give her a chance,” Sindhu said after the match.
This was Sindhu’s second title on tour this year after the Japan Open Super 750 in July, which was her first individual crown since December 2024. Overall, she now has seven BWF World Tour titles to her name.
This is the first season since 2022 in which Sindhu has won multiple BWF World Tour titles. The two-time Olympic medallist had also played the final at the French Open last week but lost to world No. 1 and the 2024 Paris open champion champion An Se-young of Korea.
Later in the day, seventh seed and world No. 14 Lakshya Sen defeated the sixth-ranked Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-17, 21-10 in 39 minutes to bag his second Hylo Open crown.
His first was in 2019 when the tournament was rated Super 100.
The Indian shuttler started well and troubled Christie with his deft net shots to take a 18-10 lead. However, the Indonesian responded with seven straight points to reduce the deficit to just one.
Lakshya, who had finished runners up at the All England Open earlier this year, then kicked on at the right moment to take the first game before dominating the second in a rather one-sided affair.
The win brought Lakshya level with Christie in the head-to-head record at 4-4 and secured his fifth World Tour title. He also has two Super 100 crowns to his name.
Both the women’s and men’s doubles saw upset wins for lower ranked pairs.
In the women’s doubles, Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti of Indonesia stunned Taiwanese top seeds Hsu Yin-Hui-Lin Jhih Yun 21-18, 21-19 in the final.
Unseeded Danes Christian Faust Kjaer-Rasmus Kjaer upset second seeds Ben Lane-Sean Vendy of England 21-14, 21-18 for the men’s doubles title.
