Goh Jin Wei
Former world junior badminton champion Goh Jin Wei has clinched her first BWF women’s singles title since the Orleans International in 2016.
The 26-year-old third seed cruised to a 21-11, 21-11 win in just 30-minutes over Indonesian Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi at the Singapore International Challenge.
A series of health issues has seen Jin Wei unable to fully live up to her potential despite having won world juniors twice and the 2018 Youth Olympics.
Her last major title was at the regional SEA Games in 2017. She had also made the Thailand Master final earlier this year but was forced to concede a walkover to India’s Devika Sihag after trailing 8-21, 3-6.
The victory would be a boost for the shuttler, who has also recently been included in Malaysia’s squad for the Uber Cup in Denmark next month.
Meanwhile qualifier Wu Zhe Ying came down back from a game down to take home the men’s singles title.
Playing his ninth match in the competition, he gunned down Indonesia’s 13th seed Bismo Raya Oktora 5-21, 21-19, 21-16.
