The organisers of the Thailand SEA Games have been forced to relocate the boxing event in Songkhla due to the current flooding.
The boxing event has been shifted from the Southern Major City Stadium to the International Convention Centre at Prince of Songkla University and are also likely to move the football competition to Bangkok.
The Thai cabinet on Tuesday declared all of Songkhla province a disaster zone, freeing up relief funds, as the province continued to suffer under the severe flooding that has claimed the lives of at least 13 people in the southern region.
The Southern Major City Stadium is currently flooded, preventing officials from preparing it for the Thai boxing event of the SEA Games.
Venues for the Petanque and Pencak Silat events will remain unchanged, and preparations for these venues are progressing.
The Group B football competition was initially planned to take place at Tinsulanonda Stadium in Songkhla, featuring teams from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos. The first match is scheduled for December 4.
While Tinsulanonda Stadium itself was not flooded, the road leading to the stadium was submerged. As a result, the venue may be moved to either Rajamangala National Stadium or Thammasat Stadium in Bangkok instead.
