Five different nations topped the podium on an exciting day at the Chuncheon World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
Thailand were among the standout performers, picking up two golds on the day.
Punnawit Hongyisipaet and Suchanan Injang got the better of Japan’s Zen Shiosaki and Hinako Sato in the Pair Junior final, with Hong Kong, China and Vietnam both taking bronze.
Thailand’s six-strong Team Under 17 squad of Pongsakorn Thongdee, Manan Tongbanbor, Punnathorn Sirisom, Natnaree Kumsa-Ad, Peerasak Sansanit and Rinrada Numthongthai then rounded off the day with a second gold, finishing above the USA who took silver, and the Philippines and Chinese Taipei who shared bronze.
Germany also enjoyed success, with Heekyung Reimann and Werner Unland taking gold in the Pair Over 60 event ahead of Spain’s Jose Manuel Marin Fernandez and Beatriz Queiro Campos. Canada and Austria rounded out the podium with bronze.
Vietnam’s trio of Thi Tuyet Mai Lien, Tuyet Van Chau and Thi Le Kim Nguyen claimed gold in the Female Team Under 50 event, seeing off Germany’s Stephanie Elbers, Francesca Dincao and Amelie Bruening for the title. Korea and Spain shared bronze.
Australia’s team of Pat Petrovski, Karen Doyle and Carmela Hartnett took gold in the Female Team Over 60 category, finishing ahead of Austria in the final. Great Britain and the USA both collected bronze.
Korea also enjoyed another productive day, taking four golds across the Individual and Team events.
Joo Yeong Lee won the Female Under 30 title ahead of Iran’s Mahsa Barzegari, with Denmark’s Eva Sandersen and Ratchadawan Tapaenthong of Thailand sharing bronze.
Untae Jang took the Male Over 17 crown, with the Philippines’ Darius Venerable taking silver and Canada’s Kai-Hsin Chang and China’s Yuxin Wang winning the bronze medals.
In the team events, Korea’s trios topped both the Male Team Cadet and Under-30 categories.
Jin Woo Yeo, Hyeon Jong Im and Yul Kang finished ahead of the USA in the Cadet event, with Chinese Taipei and Mexico taking bronze.
In the Under 30 category, Min Hyeok Oh, Hangyeol Park and Tae Woo Kim saw off Chinese Taipei, with the Philippines and Malaysia sharing bronze.
