A spectacular Flash Mob performance by 2,026 young Taekwondoin lit up Tashkent this evening, as excitement builds for the World Taekwondo Junior Championships.
The event brought together members of the World Taekwondo Performance Team and young athletes.
It was organised by the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association in the lead-up to the historic Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships, and took place in the main square of the Olympic village.
The number 2,026 symbolised the year of the championships and demonstrated that Taekwondo is a sport for all, with drone footage highlighting the impressive scale of the event.
The flash mob produced kicks, basic Taekwondo techniques and poomsae routines with stunning synchronisation, accompanied by powerful shouts which brought further energy to the performance.
The World Taekwondo Performance Team then took centre stage, showcasing precise movements and jaw-dropping demonstrations that impressed the audience.
Among those to enjoy the event was World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue, joined by World Taekwondo Vice Presidents and Council members as well as national team delegations.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Sports Adkham Ikramov, First Deputy Chairman of the NOC Otabek Umarov, NOC Secretary General Oybek Kasimov and President of the Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association Sherzod Tashmatov were also in attendance.
This event followed the well-received “Taekwondo for All” flash mob at the 2019 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships in Tashkent, which featured 2,019 participants.
World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue thanked the Uzbekistan NOC, Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association and all participants for contributing to a memorable evening.
“Uzbekistan is one of the fastest-growing countries in Taekwondo. We had great memories of the flash mob in 2019, and this year’s event was perhaps even more incredible to witness,” President Choue said.
“Tashkent has truly embraced Taekwondo as part of its culture, and we are truly excited to see the next generation of talented athletes from around the world compete here in the coming days.”
The World Taekwondo Junior Championships will take place from April 12 to 17, featuring a record 986 athletes from 115 countries, including the Refugee Team.
