Stewart Cink
Stewart Cink shot 9-under 63 at Hualalai Golf Course move into a share of the lead at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship.
The PGA Champions Player of Year is tied at 15 under with 51-year-old Freddie Jacobson of Sweden entering the final day of competition on the west coast of Hawaii Island.
Cink, who carded a first-round 66, carded 10 birdies with the only stutter with a bogey at the par-4 No. 16.
Jacobson birdied his first four holes, then posted an eagle on No. 10 to follow up with his first-round 65.
Cink was one of six golfers in the 42-player field to shoot 8 under or better on the day.
Canada’s Stephen Ames, who led after the first round, slipped into a tie for third at 14 under with Argentina’s Angel Cabrera.
Ames finished round two on 66 with seven birdies, one bogey and 10 pars.
Cabrera carded the lowest round of the day with a 10-under 62, landing an eagle, on the par-5 No. 4, and 10 birdies — Nos. 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16. Cabrera lost strokes with bogeys at the par-4 No. 11 and the par-3 No. 17.
Fred Couples is alone in fifth at 13 under after his 66. He made five consecutive birdies on Nos. 4-8 for a 31 on the front nine, birdied No. 10 and gave back a shot with a bogey at No. 12 before recording another birdie at No. 14.
Three time winner here. 68-year-old Bernhard Langer is tied 11th after shooting a 64.
