Home favourite Jordan Brown earned a place in the final stages of the Northern Ireland Open in Belfast with a 4-0 defeat of Julien Leclercq in the second qualifying round.
Brown reached the quarter-finals at the Waterfront Hall last year, knocking out the likes of Zhao Xintong and Shaun Murphy, and hopes for another deep run particularly as he could be in danger of losing his tour card at the end of this season. Breaks of 51 and 70 today helped the Antrim cueman to a comfortable victory.
Luca Brecel is another star name who is around the relegation zone in the projected end of season rankings, but he boosted his cause with a 4-1 win over Mitchell Mann, compiling breaks of 96, 99, 75 and 54. British Open semi-finalist Liam Highfield kept up his momentum as he beat Jiang Jun 4-1 with runs of 80, 55, 73 and 111.
China’s Yao Pengcheng whitewashed Stan Moody 4-0 with a top run of 102 while Liam Pullen enjoyed a 4-0 success against Ben Woollaston with a top break of 120. Tour rookie Oliver Sykes edged out Zak Surety 4-3, while Hong Kong’s Ka Wai Cheung made a 123 in a 4-3 defeat of Oliver Lines.
