Yingsha at the helm for four years and going

Chinese superstar Sun Yingsha is now officially the World No.1 for over four years in the ITTF Table Tennis World Rankings.

Yingsha first became the World No.1 in February 2022 and, after a brief stint at the summit, dropped to No.2. She regained the top spot on July 18, 2022, and has been there ever since, building a gap of almost 2,500 ranking points between her and the nearest challenger and teammate, Wang Manyu.

She also has more than double the points of World No.3 Miwa Harimoto of Japan.

After so long as the World No.1 in women’s singles, we’ve almost run out of superlatives for the 25-year-old, who many consider to be the table tennis GOAT.

One thing that is certainly not up for debate, however, is Yingsha’s prowess when she steps up to the table. At WTT events, she has played 155 matches, losing only 14 and boasts a win rate of 91%. Those wins have taken her to 24 finals, 19 of which have ended in titles.

Of the five finals Yingsha has lost, which make up almost a fifth of her overall losses at WTT events, no one has ever beaten her in straight games. That means anyone who makes it to a final with ShaSha knows they are in for a long battle if they are going to win. Even before the match begins, she has already won the psychological war.

One of Yingsha’s best-ever performances on the WTT Series came earlier this year at Singapore Smash 2026, when she faced World No.2 Manyu. The match had everything, with Manyu rallying to draw level after losing the opening two games.

Manyu then had the opportunity to take the lead for the first time, but YIngshasaved not one, not two, not three, but four game points in front of a packed crowd. Yingsha was then leading 9-3 in the sixth game, and fended off a desperate Manyu, who closed the gap to two points at 9-7 before taking the title.

Yingsha’s next WTT event is Europe Smash – Sweden 2026, where she will be hunting her seventh WTT Grand Smash title, which would also be the first time in her career that she has won three in a row.
