Wyndham Clark
Wyndham Clark is poised to claim the US Open golf championships title for the second time.
Staked to a four-shot lead entering the third round at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Clark put forth a masterful short-game performance and authored a signature shot on the par-5 16th to break free from his closest pursuers.
Clark’s even-par 70 kept him at 7-under for the week, and he’ll take a six-shot lead over four other players, including Scottie Scheffler, as he looks to lift the trophy for the second time in the last four years.
Scheffler enters the final round trailing Clark by six strokes but cannot be discounted. His largest come-from-behind win of his career was five strokes when he won the PLAYERS Championship two years ago.
The four-time major champion would become the seventh player in history to complete the Career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, should he win tomorrow.
Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Sam Stevens are all also tied in second spot, trailing the imposing Clark.
Both Kim and Scheffler, will celebrate birthdays on Sunday, turning 24 and 30, respectively as they vie to become the first player on record to win a major championship on their birthday.
Theegala carded an even-par 70 in the third round his best finish in 14 prior major championship starts is ninth at the 2023 Masters Tournament.
Kim has two top-10 finishes in 16 major championship starts at the 2023 Open Championship/T2 and the 2023 U.S. Open/T8).
Stevens finished T23 at the 2025 U.S. Open for his best finish in eight major championship starts as the 29-year-old seeks his first win on Tour.
The round of the day was turned in by Emiliano Grillo (T6/E) with a 3-under 67; marking just his second score in the 60s in 25 rounds at the U.S. Open.
The amateur leaderboard see Ryder Cowan (+2) on the lead with , Miles Russell (+7), Jackson Koivun (+7), Marek Fleming (+8) and Eric Lee (+12) trailing behind.
