Yuanyu had been presented the opportunity to ramp up the pressure on his higher-ranked opponent, and he more than delivered, frustrating Calderano with game point saves at 8-10 and 9-10 to put the Brazilian under the cosh.

The tide had well and truly turned, with Yuanyu now very much the player in the ascendency. Calderano, who reached the semifinals here in Singapore back in 2023, was now in real danger of seeing his week come to a premature halt. Soon the unthinkable would become reality, as Yuanyu kept his foot on the gas to send shockwaves around The Kallang.

Adding to eye-catching victories over Darko Jorgic and Milosz Redzimski, the week just gets better and better for Yuanyu, who is quickly making a name for himself at Singapore Smash 2026. Meanwhile, Calderano’s wait for a first WTT Grand Smash title goes on.

Meanwhile, Hina Hayata remains in the hunt for women’s singles glory following a dramatic last-gasp 11-7, 12-10, 4-11, 7-11, 13-11 win over Kuai Man.

Last year in Singapore, Man shocked the world with her astonishing run to the final, taking down the likes of Singapore Smash 2024 champion Wang Manyu and former World No.1 Zhu Yuling along the way.

But one year on Man has fallen in the last 16. She thought she had done enough to rescue the situation, overturning a two-game deficit to wrestle away the momentum from Hayata’s grasp, before setting up match point at 9-10 in the decider. However, Hayata didn’t falter, showing nerves of steel with the weight of the world on her shoulders to get over the line 13-11.

This is Hayata’s third 3-2 victory of the week, having dug deep to see off Bruna Takahashi and He Zhuojia in the previous rounds, and is now just one win away from equalling her personal best WTT Grand Smash finish.

In the men’s doubles event, brothers Alexis and Felix Lebrun are back in their second WTT Grand Smash title match, returning to the final round for the first time since United States Smash 2025.

The brothers were pushed to their limits, but lived to fight another day, holding off Manav Thakkar- Manush Shah in five 11-6, 7-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8 to set up a blockbuster final with Lin Shidong-Huang Youzheng.

The men’s singles title race has been blown wide open at Singapore Smash table tennis championship after Chen

[7
65
post-9931","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsbeat","tag-table-tennis
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano.jpg",1000,660,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano-300x198.jpg",300,198,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano-768x507.jpg",640,423,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano.jpg",640,422,false],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano.jpg",1000,660,false],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano.jpg",1000,660,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Hugo-Calderano-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
["GET
