{"id":9645,"date":"2026-02-20T09:51:21","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T02:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=9645"},"modified":"2026-02-20T09:51:23","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T02:51:23","slug":"faber-cabrera-sole-cambodian-representative-as-two-others-knocked-out-by-financial-constraints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/faber-cabrera-sole-cambodian-representative-as-two-others-knocked-out-by-financial-constraints\/","title":{"rendered":"Faber Cabrera sole Cambodian representative as two others knocked out by financial constraints"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Funding issues has knocked out two junior Cambodian talents from the Asian Cadet and Junior Fencing Championships in Jakarta, starting from 24\u201327 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two fencers &#8211; Phat lykat and Men Monika &#8211; will now have to sit out of the as the sport\u2019s leading young fencers take a critical step towards April\u2019s global stage in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duo have been training earnestly for the tournament since last year August immediately after the World University Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Asian Junior Championships is one of the four continental tournaments taking place this month as part of the road to the Junior and Cadet World Championships in Rio de Janeiro in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it is not all doom and gloom for the Kingdom as upcoming fencer Jose Faber Cabrera will see action in Jakarta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nineteen-year-old is the sole Cambodian representative in Jakarta, competing in the Junior Men\u2019s \u00c9p\u00e9e category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November last year, Cabrera competed at the FIE \u00c9p\u00e9e Junior World Cup Hong Kong held in Hong Kong. Competing against top junior fencers from around the world, the experience provided valuable international exposure and helped prepare him for major continental competitions including the upcoming Asian Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The young fencer\u2019s international appearances follow a series of impressive domestic results last season. Cabrera had captured the gold medal in Senior Men\u2019s \u00c9p\u00e9e at the 11th National Fencing<br>Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also earned the bronze medal in the Senior Men\u2019s \u00c9p\u00e9e event at the 4th Fencing Western Cup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cabrera balances his demanding training schedule with rigorous academic pursuits.
