With over 10,000 appearances on Weibo’s main trending charts, and keywords like “Grand Smash,” “WTT,” “Champion,” and names like World No.1’s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, lighting up timelines year-round, table tennis emerged as China’s most talked-about sport organically and emphatically.

The rise in digital attention reflects the sport’s growing cultural relevance, the personalities driving it, and the sheer frequency of unforgettable moments delivered throughout the season. In parallel, World Table Tennis (WTT) and Weibo formalised their strategic partnership in December 2025, building on this momentum to drive deeper content collaboration, athlete storytelling, and new ways of engaging fans directly on the platform.

Adding to the sport’s momentum, WTT was also named “Influential Event of the Year” last year at the 2025 Weibo Ignite Night — China’s biggest annual sports and entertainment gala. The accolade, now awarded to World Table Tennis for the third consecutive year, was presented during a awards night that drew over 300 million livestream views and brought together athletes, esports stars, commentators and creators on one of the most powerful social media stages in the country.
