The win for the 13-time champions sets up a semi-final clash with Iraq – who defeated Thailand 4-2 in their quarter-final tie.

Japan burst into life in the second half to defeat Afghanistan 6-0 in their quarter-final tie.

Indonesia custodian Ahmad Habiebie was forced into early action, saving Tu Minh Quang’s effort from range, but it was the home side who found the breakthrough first.

From a kick-in in the fourth minute, Firman Adriansyah set up Brian Lindrey for a strike that took a deflection off Nhan Gia Hung and wrongfooted goalkeeper Pham Van Tu.

Vietnam recovered from going behind to take control of the match but despite much probing, were unable to find a way past Ahmad and instead, went further behind in the 11th minute.

Rio Pangestu and Ardiansyah Nur exchanged passes to shift Vietnam’s defence side to side before the gap eventually opened for the latter to sweep home.

Ahmad continued to be tested but passed each test with flying colours, putting out a big hand to tip over Vu Ngoc Anh’s blast before diving low to gather Tran Thai Huy’s shot as Indonesia kept their two-goal advantage at the break.

After the interval, Vietnam applied the pressure as they looked for a way back into the game with efforts from Trinh Cong Dai and Minh Quang making sure Ahmad remained on high alert.

Diego Giustozzi’s side halved the deficit in the 25th minute, Nguyen Da Hai slotting past Ahmad after receiving the ball from Chau Doan Phat.

Indonesia, however, wasted little time in restoring their two-goal lead, an unmarked Yogi Saputra cut the ball back for Reza Gunawan to sidefoot it into the top corner.

Vietnam made it an interesting final few minutes when Da Hai struck again on 36 minutes but Indonesia held firm to keep their fantastic run going.

Uzbekistan were awarded a penalty after a Video Support review within the first minute when Iran keeper Bagher Mohammadi barged into Ikhtiyor Ropiev, with the latter firing into the left corner past the flat-footed custodian.

Shakram Fakhriddinov extended their lead in the sixth minute when he slipped past his marker on the left and slammed the ball from the edge of the semi-circle into the top right corner.

In response, Iran piled on the pressure with Moslem Oladghobad pulling one back a minute later, collecting a pass from Mehdi Mehdikhani and sending a low drive that deflected off opposing skipper Khamroev Ilkhomjon and past a rooted Abbos Elmurodov.

They leveled in the ninth minute through Ahmad Abbasi who, from a long throw by his keeper, chested the ball and produced an acrobatic volley from the edge of the circle that bounced off the floor and past Elmurodov.

The keeper made a fine save to deny Abbasai moments later, but was caught off-position in the 12th minute when Behrooz Azimihematabadi came down the right and fed the ball to Mohammadhossein Derakshani, who lashed his shot into an empty goal.

Mohammadi palmed away Ropiev’s rising shot in the 18th minute, and the next Iran attack saw Hossein Sabzi come from behind the Uzbekistan defence on the right and slip the ball past Elmurodov for goal number four.

Uzbekistan went into overdrive after the break, Mohammadi working hard to make consecutive saves from Eldor Nigmatov’s close-range effort and one from distance by Anaskhon Rakhmatov.

Their hopes were dealt a blow in the 23rd minute when an Ilkhomjon handball saw Iran awarded a penalty, with skipper Hossesin Tayebibidgoli duly converting to send his side further ahead.

Sunatalla Juraev, however, brought Uzbekistan back into the game three minutes later with a stiff drive from the left that zipped past both Mohammadi and midfielder Khalilvand Somehsoflam and came to rest in the far right corner.

Their joy was short-lived as Elmurodov was sent off in the 29th minute when he handled the ball outside the circle, with Azimihematabadi tapping in from the left past stand-in keeper Shavkat Ibragimov from the resulting free-kick.

Uzbekistan again bounced back, this time through Muzaffar Akhadjonov, whose stinging shot from just past the centreline gave Mohammadi no chance at all but Sabzi sealed the match in the closing seconds to send Iran into yet another semi-final.

In the match between Iraq and Thailand, the first chance went the way of Iraq following a brilliant drag back by Tareq Zeyad which opened space for Haedr Majed to have a shot at goal, with the latter firing his effort just over the bar.

Keeping Thailand contained, Iraq grabbed the opening goal in the seventh minute thanks to a surging solo run by Salim Kadhim from inside his own half before teeing up Mustafa Ihsan for a toepoke finish beyond Nuttapong Yeemarep.

The goal woke Thailand up as they got themselves back on level terms two minutes later when a melee in Iraq’s penalty area saw the ball reach Panut Kittipanuwong, who squared for Muhammad Osamanmusa for a simple tap-in.

The Southeast Asian side then had opportunities to take the lead but Ibrahim Ahmed saved Osamanmusa’s close range attempt before Panut curled an effort that struck the bar as it remained all to play for at the break.

Iraq restored their lead two minutes after the interval with Kadhim’s pace again causing trouble for Thailand, racing away from his markers on the right flank before finding Ihsan, who placed the ball into the bottom corner with a low shot.

Panut looked the likeliest source of getting Thailand back on level terms, the 26-year-old going close in successive minutes with his first effort dragged just wide before a powerful left footed shot aimed for the near post which Ahmed palmed away.

Even when Ahmed was beaten in the 33rd minute, the post came to Iraq’s rescue with Krit Aransanyalak’s strike from an acute angle hitting the frame of the goal.

Thailand’s hopes of comeback were dashed seconds later as Kadhim exchanged passes with Ihsan before slamming home Iraq’s third.

Iraq made sure of the win in the 37th minute as Ahmed saved Osamanmusa’s shot before firing the ball into an empty Thailand goalmouth. Chaowala Sriarwut pulled a goal back in the 40th minute but it was a mere consolation as the West Asian side sealed a long-awaited return to the semi-finals.

Japan led by a solitary goal in the first half, but upped the tempo to blast five goals in the second.

Both sides started on an equal footing, but Japan struck first in the fifth minute when skipper Kazuya Shimizu, exploiting a poor clearance by Reza Hosseinpoor, smashed the ball past keeper Javad Safari.

Stung by the goal, Afghanistan moved up a gear, with Sayed Mortaza Hussaini’s shot spilled by Japan keeper Hiroshi Tabuchi and Sayed Mojtaba Husseini’s follow-up stopped by Ryoto Kai, who used his body to shield the ball.

The Central Asian side survived a scare when Kokoro Harada crashed his shot against the right bar and then it was Japan’s turn moments later on the other end when Omid Qandari’s effort rattled the left post.

Tabuchi and Safari pulled off saves in the following minutes, the former going down to cradle the ball during a goalmouth scramble and the latter turning away Shimizu’s attempt from distance and then another similar attempt by Yusei Arai.

The East Asian side hung on to their slender lead until the break, with Afghanistan going all out to find the equaliser but prevented from doing so by wayward finishing and some fine work from Tabuchi.

Afghanistan turned up the heat in the second half, Farzad Mahmoodi’s sizzling strike four minutes in forcing the Japan keeper into a superb save and it was Shimizu who turned the game back in Japan’s favour when his low drive slipped out of Safari’s grasp to double their lead two minutes later.

Shunta Uchida then extended their advantage when he stuck his foot out in the 27th minute to direct Harada’s cross past the keeper, and Tomoki Yoshikawa secured goal number four barely a minute later when he pounced on a poor back pass by Akbar Kazemi, and with Safari in Japan’s half, steered the ball into an empty goalmouth.

Despite continuous pressing, the Central Asian side failed to get the better of Tabuchi, and Japan took advantage of their defensive gaps and an out-of-position Safari for Ryuji Izu to float the ball home from his own half in the 35th minute before Shimizu completed his hat-trick with an almost identical goal just before the end.

Hosts Indonesia added another chapter to their AFC Futsal Asian Cup history after defeating Vietnam 3-2 in
