Rose, who won at Torrey Pines in 2019, made five birdies on each side to card dueling 31s for a one shot lead ahead of Justin Lower, who sits at 9 under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rose could have gone even lower on Thursday. He missed a 3-footer for birdie at the par-5 ninth, his last hole of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of seven past champions in the field, Rose is a 2-time PGA Tour winner and most recently <\/strong>won the St. Jude Championship last year,<\/p>\n\n\n\n With eagles on No. 9 and No. 17 on the North Course, Lower recorded two eagles in his nine-under round to trail Rose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Making his third start at the Farmers Insurance Open, Max Greyserman opened with an 8-under 64 tied in third with HIdeki Matsuyama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hideki Matsuyama, one of 10 major championship winners in the field is making his 13th consecutive appearance at the Farmers Insurance Open.
