{"id":8450,"date":"2026-01-27T07:48:02","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T00:48:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=8450"},"modified":"2026-01-27T07:48:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T00:48:49","slug":"koepka-to-start-on-tour-this-week-after-shock-liv-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/koepka-to-start-on-tour-this-week-after-shock-liv-exit\/","title":{"rendered":"Koepka to start on Tour this week after shock LIV exit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former world No 1 Brooks Koepka will headline a star-studded field at the Farmers Insurance Open starting tomorrow at the San Diego\u2019s iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The five-time major champion is officially making his return to the PGA Tour after announcing a shock exit from the rival LIV Golf last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will be his first start in a non-major on the Tour since the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play via the Returning Member Program,&nbsp;which allows players who have achieved levels of elite performance-based criteria an alternative path back to the Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Koepka will now feature in the 147-man field that also includes defending champion Harris English, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, Justin Rose, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, and Ludvig Aberg, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of his return to the Tour, Koepka was added to the field (145) so not to take a spot from a current Tour member. To round out threesomes, the field was officially expanded to 147, with the first two alternates at that time \u2013 Jackson Suber and Lanto Griffin added to the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Koepka, who had finished T4 at the 2021 U.S. Open when it was played at Torrey Pines, will be making his fifth start at the Farmers Insurance Open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>English had claimed his fifth Tour title at the &nbsp;championships last year and went on to finish the season with four top-10s \u2013 including runner-up finishes at the PGA Championship and Open Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He began his season with a T27 finish at The American Express last week and is currently No. 11 in the Official World Golf Ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c5berg won The Genesis Invitational when it was staged last year at Torrey Pines\u2019 South Course after the event was relocated from The Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles following devastating wildfires in the area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He makes third career appearance at the Farmers Insurance Open having finished T9 in 2024 and T42 last year. He was the 18-hole leader at the championships last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aberg was forced to withdraw due to illness prior to the third round of last week\u2019s American Express, his first start of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spaun makes his 10<sup>th<\/sup> appearance at the Open, having a best finish of \u00a0T9 in 2017, his tournament debut<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He began the 2026 PGA TOUR Season with a T40 finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for Schauffele, the world No. 6 is the highest-ranked player\u00a0in\u00a0the field and is making his season debut on Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ten-time Tour winner and 2021 Olympic gold medalists most recent start on Tour resulted in a victory at the Baycurrent Classic last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Also in the field are past champions Brandt Snedeker (2012, 2016), Jason Day (2015, 2018), Justin Rose (2019), Luke List (2022), Max Homa (2023) and Matthieu Pavon (2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two-time winner of the Open. Day seeks 14<sup>th<\/sup> Tour victory and first since the 2023 CJ CUP Byron Nelson; joins Snedeker (2012, 2016) as the only players in the field searching for a third Farmers Insurance Open title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matsuyama, one of 10 major championship winners in the Open field, makes his 13<sup>th<\/sup> consecutive appearance here with a best finish of T3 in 2019).
