{"id":8014,"date":"2026-01-16T07:53:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T00:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=8014"},"modified":"2026-01-16T07:53:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T00:53:14","slug":"coll-and-sivasangari-top-draws-for-australian-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/coll-and-sivasangari-top-draws-for-australian-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Coll and Sivasangari top draws for Australian Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The draws for the Squash Australian Open 2026 have been announced, with New Zealand&#8217;s Paul Coll and Malaysia&#8217;s Sivasangari Subramaniam topping the draws for the PSA Squash Tour Gold level event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will take place between 10-15 March on a stunning all-glass court at Brisbane&#8217;s South Bank Piazza, with Sandgate Squash Club also hosting matches in rounds one and two. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2015 Champion and 2025 runner-up Paul Coll headlines the men&#8217;s draw as he looks to claim his second Australian Open title, 11 years after his first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coll&#8217;s win over Aussie legend Cameron Pilley remains a pivotal moment in the New Zealander&#8217;s career, and a second title would be Coll&#8217;s third title of the season, cementing his position as the World No.2. Coll will take on either Swiss Rocket Nicolas Mueller or Pakistan&#8217;s Muhammas Ashab Irfan in round one after his opening round bye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wales&#8217; Joel Makin is set to feature in his sixth PSA event in Australia in March. The Welshman reached the semi-finals in the 2016 event, but is looking to secure his first Australian Open title this year and claim a second title of the season. Makin has struggled with a few injuries this season, but will be hoping that those are behind him as the tour reaches a busy period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egyptian duo Mohamad Zakaria and Youssef Soliman occupy the 3\/4 seeding positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>World Junior Champion Zakaria claimed his first Gold event victory at the Karachi Open recently, a win that moved the 18-year-old into the top 10 to become the third youngest male player to ever reach the milestone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soliman will have fond memories of the Australian Open after his win in 2024. The current World No.11 is another who&#8217;s been struggling with injuries but will look to be fighting fit as he heads down under for the third consecutive year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women&#8217;s draw is headed by World No.6 and Malaysian No.1 Sivasangari. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sivasangari reached the final of the recent Karachi Open Gold event, and with greater consistency added to her game this season, the Malaysian will be desperate to clinch a second career Gold title to push her closer to the world&#8217;s top five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belgium&#8217;s former World No.5 Tinne Gilis is the No.2 seed for this year&#8217;s event as she looks to claim her first silverware of the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European No.1 will be determined to return to winning ways after losing ground on her close competitors in the world rankings. Gilis is in the same half of the draw as No.3 seed Salma Hany, the winner of the 2024 Australian Open. Hany&#8217;s compatriot Nada Abbas, is the No.4 seed for the event as she hopes to cause an upset to reach her second final of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Australian fans will no doubt be in full voice to cheer on their home players during the event. The men&#8217;s draw features Australian No.1 Joseph White and World No.114 Dylan Molinaro, whilst the women&#8217;s event will see Alexandra Haydon and Madison Lyon look to use thier home advantage
