{"id":7986,"date":"2026-01-15T22:34:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T15:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=7986"},"modified":"2026-01-15T22:34:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T15:34:08","slug":"chotrani-advances-to-first-silver-quarter-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/chotrani-advances-to-first-silver-quarter-final\/","title":{"rendered":"Chotrani advances to first silver quarter-final"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>India&#8217;s Veer Chotrani has booked his place in the quarter finals of a Silver-level event for the first time after axing No.8 seed Yannick Wilhelmi in straight games at the  Squash in the Land 2026 in Detroit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chotrani, who&#8217;s appearing in his first Silver tournament on the PSA Squash Tour, followed up his round one 3-0 success with another straight games victory against Wilhelmi to advance to the last eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The World No.52 delivered an impressive display to win 11-6, 11-8, 11-3 and earn himself a quarter-final clash with the tournament&#8217;s No.2 seed Leonel Cardenas on Friday evening.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I feel amazing,&#8221; he said post-match.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s first my Silver tournament and my first Silver quarters and I&#8217;m stoked to be through today because Yannick [Wilhelmi] has been playing so well lately and I&#8217;m proud of myself for performing like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve had a good month of training coming into this event and I&#8217;m very happy with the way I showed up today. I had a positive mindset and I wanted to execute my gameplan and it worked well so I&#8217;m happy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, World No.23 Greg Lobban avoided a shock defeat to World No.77 Muhammad Asim Khan, winning 3-2 in the final match of the day at Urban Squash Cleveland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the women&#8217;s side of the draw, Lucy Beecroft produced a sensational comeback from 2-1 to beat No.7 seed Georgia Adderley 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beecroft, who&#8217;s through to her first Silver quarter-final since the New Zealand Open in 2023, saw her great attacking verve rewarded with a 11-8, 8-11, 10-12, 11-7, 12-10 win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It was a tough one and I knew coming in it was going to be a physical battle,&#8221; she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been working on that and I&#8217;m trying to get more confident in that side of my game and being able to control the pace and play to my strengths.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was able to do that a lot of the time today and Georgia [Adderley] is such a tough player, she&#8217;s almost top 20 in the world, she&#8217;s an incredible athlete and she&#8217;s added a lot of things to her game.
