Looking to regain the title she last won in 2021, Se-young defeated Indonesia\u2019s Putri Kusuma Wardani 21-16, 8-21, 21-8 in her tough opening women\u2019s singles Group A match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reigning Olympic world champion is chasing the record of 11 titles won by any singles player in a single season. In the 14 tournaments she had played this season, she had won 10 titles, including the Australian Open last month, defeating Putri in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last and only player to have reached the pinnacle in 11 tournaments was Japan\u2019s Kento Momota, who had won 11 titles in a historic season in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, newly crowned SEA Games champion Ratchanok Intanon fell in her opening match, succumbing to a 18-21, 21-14, 10-21 to teammate Pornpawee Chochuwong in her opening Group B match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the women\u2019s doubles, Malaysia\u2019s newly crowned SEA Games champions defeated China\u2019s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian for the first time in six matches in their career. The Chinese pair had, however, conceded a walkover to Pearly-Thinaah in their only defeat due to injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Group A encounter this time was an exhibition of domination by the Malaysians, who won 21-17, 21-11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand fell for the third time in five matches to Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito, with the Japanese beating the Thais 21-19 21-18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
