The 14-year-old not only won the Junior World All-Around title last month, she also came away with her own element in the Women’s Code of Points.

Minamino captured everyone’s attention in Manila by catching a piked Jaeger with full twist release skill on Uneven Bars en route to capturing the All-Around title. The piked Jaeger full has been given a difficulty value of 0.6, and will hereafter be known as the Minamino.

Gymnasts who create original elements can submit them to be named after themselves in the Code of Points, the definitive resource for gymnastics skills. The process begins when the gymnast submits a video of the new skill to the FIG Technical Committee, which evaluates it and assigns a difficulty rating on a scale of A to J. Elements rated C or above are eligible for naming.

If the gymnast then completes the element without a major fault at an international competition like a World Cup or World Championships, the skill is validated as theirs by the Technical Committee and officially named for them. Having a named skill is considered one of the highest honours in gymnastics.

Minamino is the second consecutive Japanese junior world champion to get her own skill in the Women’s Code. Nakamura Haruka also had an Uneven Bars element named for her at the 2023 Junior Worlds.

THE MINAMINO

Performed at the 2025 Artistic Junior World Championships in Manila (PHI) by Minamino Yume (JPN)

Apparatus: Uneven Bars

Element description: Jaeger salto piked with 1/1 turn (360 degrees) to hang on high bar.

Element value: F (0.6)

Name awarded: The Minamino

Japan’s Minamino Yume is flying high.
