Korean ace An Se-young is on a merciless march towards a record tenth international title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 23-year-old Olympic gold medalist stormed into the semi-finals of the Australian Open badminton championships with a 21-10, 21-8 demolition of Manami Suizi of Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She will play newly crowned Japan Masters champion Ratchanok Intanon in the semi-finals tomorrow. Ironically, Intanon won in Japan in the absence of Se-young, who was forced to skip the tournament due to top player commitment regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fourth seeded Intanon was forced to come back from a game down to down teammate Supanida Katethong, seeded two rungs below, 17-21, 21-11, 23-21 in a match that lasted an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ratchanok has not beaten Se-young in any of her ten meetings since the Sudirman Cup in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Korean lass has been dominating the badminton circuit with victories at the Malaysia Open, India Open, Orl\u00e9ans Masters, All England Open, Indonesia Open, Japan Open, China Masters, Denmark Open, and France Open this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Victory in Sydney would see Se-young becoming the first women\u2019s singles player in history to achieve ten titles in a single season, surpassing her own record of nine titles set in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is the red-hot favourite to win the BWF World Tour Finals next month and is she wins both the ongoing Australian Open and the Tour Finals, she would match Momota Kenichi record of 11 titles in a single season set in the men\u2019s singles in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other women\u2019s singles semi-final will pit Indonesia\u2019s ; Putri Kusuma Wardani against Michelle Li of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the men\u2019s singles, world championship bronze-medallist Lakshya Sen overcame fellow countryman Ayush Shetty 23-21, 21-11 to secure a place in the men\u2019s singles semifinals<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seventh-seeded Indian, who had beaten Ayush at the same stage in Hong Kong Open earlier this year, will play Chinese-Taipei\u2019s second seeded veteran Chou Tien Chen in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tien Chen, ranked No. 9 in the world and a 2018 Asian Games silver medallist, overcame Farhan Alwi of Indonesia 13-21, 23-21, 21-16 in a match lasting a marathon 1 hour, 23 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other semi-finals will pit two unseeded players – Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei and Yushi Tanaka of Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the men\u2019s doubles, Indonesians pairs upstaged both the first and third seeded pairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri upstaged top seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India 21-19, 21-15 in their quarter-final tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the unheralded pair of Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin gunned down the third seeded Man Wei Chong-Kai Wun Tee of Malaysia 21-15, 19-21, 21-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second seeds Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin of Malaysia were also almost shown the exit but survived to edge out the Korean-Malaysian scratch p[air of Choi Sol-gyu-Goh V Shem 21-13, 20-22, 22-20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
