The cream of the ju-jitsu exponents from the region will converge in Siem Reap next August to battle for honours at the 5th Southeast Asian Regional Ju-Jitsu Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be the first major international Ju-Jitsu Asian Union (JJAU) sanctioned standalone event to be hosted in the Kingdom. Ju-jitsu was one of the sports competed at the biennial SEA Games in Phom Penh two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selection of Cambodia as the hosts was finalized during the Bahrain Asian Youth Games last month and a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the JJAU and the Ju-Jitsu Federation of Cambodia (JJFC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very proud to have signed this MOU, marking the first major JJAU-sanctioned event to be held in Cambodia. Our previous tournaments, including the Ju-Jitsu competitions at the 32nd SEA Games, were a great success. Now, we are ready to take the next step in growing Ju-Jitsu in Cambodia,\u201d said JJFC president Pa\u00f1athun Jayson Thong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the MOU signing the JJFC was represented Pa\u00f1athun and its first vice president Jasper Martijn Paas while the JJAU was represented by its general secretary Fahad Al Shamsi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Philippines hosted the fourth edition of the championships in July with Cambodia pinning down nine gold, eight silver, and twelve bronze medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Southeast Asian Regional Championship has been growing every year \u2013 the last edition in the Philippines welcomed over 500 athletes from across the region. Hosting this event in Siem Reap is a chance not only to strengthen Ju-Jitsu locally but also to show visitors what Cambodia has to offer,\u201d added Pa\u00f1athun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The national team competing under the banner of Team Komodo in the Philippines picked up the gold medals through Moeun Lim Sopanha, Kaimoni Operana, Kongmona Mithora, Kongmona Jassica, Heng Sreavheang, Tin Sovanbourkeo, Sao Sopheara, and William Chan Om-Feld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bulk of these champions, if not all, of these exponents are expected to spearhead Cambodia\u2019s challenge at home next August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The championships in Siem Reap is expected to see multiple disciplines including Fighting System (striking, grappling, and throwing), Ne-Waza (ground grappling, no strikes), Duo System (a self-defense demonstration), and Show Ju-Jitsu (artistic and stunt-based performances).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pa\u00f1athun added that the JJFC was working closely with the relevant ministries and organizations to get everything ready and would be seeking partners and sponsors to make the championships a memorable event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
