The national side continued to increase the lead from 8-2 to 20-4 before closing up the quarter with a 25-8 lead.

The Cambodian defence was still holding strong in the second half but they were finding it more difficult to get the basket.

Despite that, Cambodia maintained their edge over Laos, slowly but surely increasing the lead from 33-8 before Laos found the basket again. Nouhiem Kasien topscored for Laos with six points in the half but that hardly made a dent on the Cambodia’s huge advantage.

Laos managed only two more points in the half before Cambodia raced away to take the second quarter 45-12.

Cambodia’s advantage in the tie was their ability to convert 60% of their chances upfront while Laos only managed a low 19% of theirs in the first half.

Laos came back strongly in the third quarter to whittle down Cambodia’s lead, outscoring the latter 14-7 in the quarter and bringing the scoreline to 26-52.

The final quarter was a much closer affair, with Laos giving their all, but Cambodia had enough in their reserves to take the match.

Phitsamai Keopaseuth top scored for Laos with 16 points.

Cambodia finished by making 48% conversions to Laos’s 30%.

Cambodia will play arch rivals Thailand in a crucial match tomorrow. The winner of the match is likely to advance into the semi-finals.

Cambodia last two matches in the division are against lowly India and Philippines, which they should get past without major problems.

Thailand romped past India 70-11 in their match-up earlier today.

The Thais had defeated Cambodia twice at the ASEAN Para Games two years ago, winning 49-32 in the group match and 66-26 in the final.

Cambodia will be looking to turn the tables here and put themselves in the driving seat for a semi-final berth.

It was a storming performance by Cambodia as they outplayed Laos 67-40 for their second win at
