Bangkok 2023 silver medallist Kim Jongho, 2021 World Archery champion Jang Minhee and little-known archers Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge and Deepshikha topped the qualifying at the 24th Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka, Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jongho, currently ranked 17th in the world, shot an impressive 715 points out of a possible 720 points for the 72-arrow round \u2013 just three points shy of Braden Gellenthien\u2019s 718 world record-mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three points behind the Korean, taking the second seed, was experienced Abhishek Verma while another veteran Choi Yonghee, the eighth ranked and bronze medallist at the 2025 World Archery Championships, was third seed at 710.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total, 19 compound men archers broke the 700-point mark in the qualifying at the National Stadium in Dhaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five compound women broke the elite mark, led by Indian youngster Deepshikha on 705. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Close on the heels of the leader was Korea\u2019s Park Yerin, silver medallist (under 21 event) at the 2025 World Archery Youth Championships, at 704.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
World number two Jyothi Surekha Vennam (703), promising stars Prithika Pradeep (702) and Chikitha Taniparthi (701), both medallists at World Archery Youth Championships 2025, followed closely too, with one point separating the Indians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their compatriot, Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge put up a career-best qualification score of 687 points which had nine Xs, seven less than Seo Mingi, the recurve men individual and men\u2019s team gold medallist at Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 25-year-old Bhoge’s only previous international medal has been the mixed event gold at the 2019 Asia Cup Leg 1 in Bangkok. He would be looking to build on a strong start to win his first medal at the Asian Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seasoned archer Atanu Das was seeded seventh with 668 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recurve women\u2019s leaderboard was crowded by four Koreans on the top with Minhee leading the way on 675 points, two points ahead of Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist Nam Suhyeon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lee Gahyun, who shocked teammate Lim Sihyeon, the reigning Olympic Champion, to win the recurve women\u2019s individual title at the second stage of the 2025 Archery World Cup in Shanghai, was seeded fourth at 669 three points behind Kim Surin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
India\u2019s experienced archer Deepika Kumari, currently ranked ninth in the world, sat 12th with 649 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local archers Md Sagor Islam and Abdur Rahman Alif had a challenging day and were seeded 38th and 41th with 639 and 637 points, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
