{"id":5713,"date":"2025-11-08T07:34:45","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T00:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=5713"},"modified":"2025-11-08T07:34:47","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T00:34:47","slug":"sheetal-devi-makes-history-as-first-indian-para-archer-selected-for-able-bodied-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/sheetal-devi-makes-history-as-first-indian-para-archer-selected-for-able-bodied-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheetal Devi makes history as first Indian para archer selected for able-bodied team"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Indian para archer Sheetal Devi has achieved a historic milestone after being selected for the country\u2019s able-bodied compound team to compete at the Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, this December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The breakthrough followed selection trials held from 3 to 6 November at the Sports Authority of India\u2019s National Centre of Excellence in Sonipat, where Devi placed third among more than 60 compound women with a qualification score of 703.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She will line up alongside Tejal Rajendra Salve and Vaidehi Hirachandra Jadhav, who finished first and second respectively, for India in Jeddah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devi\u2019s selection marks the first time an Indian para archer has earned a place on an able-bodied national squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I started competing, I had a small dream \u2013\u00a0to one day compete alongside the able-bodied,\u201d she shared in a post on social media. \u201cI didn\u2019t make it at first, but I kept going, learning from every setback.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, that dream is one step closer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born without arms, the 18-year-old has already become one of the most recognisable figures in para archery. Her distinctive technique \u2013 using her legs and shoulders to draw and release the bow \u2013 has brought her both medals and admiration across the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devi\u2019s rise has been rapid. Earlier this year, she became the first woman without arms to win a para world title, taking gold in the compound women\u2019s event at the Gwangju 2025 World Archery Para Championships.
