{"id":5310,"date":"2025-10-28T07:36:19","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T00:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=5310"},"modified":"2025-10-28T07:36:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T00:36:21","slug":"double-header-to-decide-finals-qualifiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/double-header-to-decide-finals-qualifiers\/","title":{"rendered":"Double header to decide Finals qualifiers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As things heat up on the WTT Series, the sport\u2019s biggest stars are gearing up for a thrilling double-header at WTT Champions in Montpellier and Frankfurt, with crucial points on the line in the Race to WTT Finals Hong Kong 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set to headline the men\u2019s singles line up is World No.1 and defending champion Wang Chuqin, the 25-year-old chasing a remarkable fourth WTT Finals title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After dominant runs at both Finals in Doha 2023 and Fukuoka 2024, Chuqin will arrive at Hong Kong Coliseum as the clear favourite to steal the show once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, who could forget Wang&#8217;s stunning straight games victory over then-World No.1 Fan Zhendong in Doha\u2019s final, or his flawless performance in Fukuoka, where he dismantled home hero Tomokazu Harimoto without dropping a single game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wang Chuqin vs Tomokazu Harimoto | MS F | WTT Finals Fukuoka 2024\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/shfdUwN25uU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Given Chuqin&#8217;s imperious recent form \u2014 capturing two of the four Grand Smash 2025 singles titles and shining throughout this year\u2019s Champions events \u2014 few would bet against him continuing his reign in Hong Kong, China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But World No.6 Truls Moregard has other plans. The 23-year-old Swedish star stunned the table tennis world a couple of months back, defeating Lin Shidong to win the Europe Smash \u2013 Sweden 2025 men\u2019s aingles title, sending the Malm\u00f6 crowd wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With an impressive Champions track record behind him, Moregard will be eager to upset the odds once again and claim his first Finals crown at Hong Kong Coliseum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore Smash champion Lin Shidong, Champions Yokohama winner Harimoto, and the &#8216;Thrill from Brazil&#8217; Hugo Calderano have also done enough to qualify for the Finals, as have Felix Lebrun and Xiang Peng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over to the women\u2019s singles, where three-time Finals champion Sun Yingsha returns with her sights set on expanding her ever-growing trophy collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The World No.1 secured direct qualification following a stellar 2025 season, sweeping the singles crowns at Singapore Smash 2025 and Europe Smash \u2013 Sweden 2025, while also proving unstoppable at WTT Champions Chongqing and Macao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, defending champion Wang Manyu also returns in red-hot form, aiming for her second straight Finals singles title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The World No.2 was in a league of her own earlier this month at China Smash 2025, defeating household names such as Miwa Harimoto and Shin Yubin before overcoming top seed Sun Yingsha in six mesmerising games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also this season, Wang notched a second place finish at Europe Smash &#8211; Sweden, while also reaching the Final at Champions Macao, proving she\u2019s a major contender for the title in Hong Kong, China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, Chen Xingtong, Wang Yidi, Kuai Man and Chen Yi are the other China superstars who have done enough to qualify for the WTT Finals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making the short trip from Macao, China, Zhu Yuling, who made headlines with her United States Smash title success in July, is also bound for Hong Kong, China.
