Stumper would fight back as much as he could, but he would eventually come up short, with Walker claiming the game 7-11.

The fourth game proved just as dramatic as the first, with play equally tied up at a tense 9-9. With victory in his sights, Stumper sprinted for the finish line, taking the game and match 11-9, knocking Walker out of the title race in London. Stumper will face compatriot and eighth seed Dimitrij Ovtcharov next in a must-watch brawl.

Another player to impress was Chan Baldwin, as he took out World No.44 Eduard Ionescu in a four-game thriller 7-11, 11-7, 13-11, 16-14. Chan will have his work cut for him on Friday evening, however, as he prepares to face World No.14 Dang Qiu in the Round of 32.

Elsewhere, qualifier Elena Zaharia came back from the brink to upset the higher ranked Ng Wing Lam in the Women’s Singles Round of 64, winning 7-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-7.

With over 100 ranking spots separating Zaharia from her rival, the victory comes as a standout success for the 20-year-old Romanian at Copper Box Arena.

French player Charlotte Lutz is also marching on to the Round of 32 following an emphatic 1-7, 11-4, 11-8 victory over Yuan Wan. Meanwhile, qualifier Zhang Xiangyu continued her fantastic run, defeating fellow Chinese competitor Han Feier in four games 4-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8.

Audrey Zarif’s comeback 7-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6 win over Izabela Lupuleskuwas also turning heads in London.

Starting the week in the qualifying rounds, Zarif competently worked her way through the initial stage to bank her main draw ticket. But the French player’s hopes of extending her stay in London appeared to be in serious doubt.

A frustrating start to her showdown with Izabela Lupulesku saw the latter open up a dominant two-game lead, which under the best of five games format, left Zarif with a mountain to climb.

However, a remarkable turnaround would put spectators on the edge of their seats, as Zarif clawed her way back to complete an impressive reversal.

Staying with the session’s Women’s Singles action, there was disappointment from a Welsh perspective as Anna Hursey succumbed to an opening round defeat.

One of the bright sparks of the season, WTT Feeder Manchester champion Hursey was eyeing another unforgettable week close to home. Despite a brave showing from the 19-year-old, Hursey would ultimately be denied, with another rising star, Yeh Yi-Tian, stealing her thunder with a 11-8, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7 win.

There were, however, a couple of popular wins for the local fans to celebrate in the Men’s Singles draw, with Tom Jarvis and Connor Green navigating the Round of 64.

Jarvis, who could hardly contain his excitement in the build-up to this week’s action in London, displayed nerves of steel on Thursday, resisting late pressure from Martin Allegro to squeeze through his opening challenge 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5.

Meanwhile, an early setback didn’t dent Connor Green’s enthusiasm, as the English hopeful hit back from 0-1 down to stun World No.53 Feng Yi-Hsin in four 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.

Copper Box Arena was buzzing with excitement on Thursday evening, bragging nail-biting battles and shock results at WTT

[44
65
post-5088","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international","tag-table-tennis
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent.jpg",1000,660,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent-300x198.jpg",300,198,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent-768x507.jpg",640,423,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent.jpg",640,422,false],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent.jpg",1000,660,false],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent.jpg",1000,660,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
International
International
0
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Kay-Stumper-was-seriously-tested-by-his-English-opponent.jpg
["GET
