Moments later, as Krpalek dropped to one knee to defend, Kokauri countered perfectly, turning him over and transitioning smoothly into groundwork to secure victory.

His first-ever grand prix gold and the sixth medal for Azerbaijan in Guadalajara. It was a fine performance from a team clearly reinvigorated after last week’s struggles in Lima, their extra days of adaptation in Mexico paying off in style.

The men’s -100 kg category saw Zelym Kotsoiev, the Olympic champion reassert his dominance. The Azerbaijan exponent powered through the preliminaries with conviction, throwing decisively and wasting no time on the tatami. Across the draw, Italian Gennaro Pirelli showed similar authority, ensuring an all-action final between two in-form judoka ready to contest every exchange.

After an initial battle for grips, Kotsoiev launched a sumi-gaeshi that earned him a yuko. The Olympic champion remained focused and sharp while Pirelli fought back with determination, never settling for silver.

Despite several strong attempts, Kotsoiev’s control prevailed, securing the gold medal. The Olympic champion was back on the top step and back in golden form.

The women’s +78 kg preliminaries unfolded just as expected with Raz Hershko of Israel and Helena Vukovic of Croatia powering through their respective halves of the draw.

It took only a few seconds for Raz Hershko to throw Helena Vukovic cleanly for ippon. Two Pan-American appearances and two gold medals, the Israeli judoka once again proves herself as one of the most reliable forces in the heavyweight category. This marks her 20th World Judo Tour medal, in addition to her Olympic honours in both individual and team events.

RESULTS

Men

-100 kg

1.
