Indonesia will miss almost half of the 87 gold medallist from the previous edition of the SEA Games, but are still determined to seek a top three finish at the Thailand SEA Games in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Forty-one of the gold medallist from Cambodia 2023 will not be able to participate in Thailand, mostly because of the changes in the events competed at the Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, announced in a press conference in Jakarta yesterday that based on current calculations, Indonesia was still outside the top three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were also desperately trying to gain more funding from the Indonesian government to be able to send their full squad of athletes to Thailand until recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Thohir has now confirmed Indonesia will now send a full contingent of 80o athletes instead of just 120.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Indonesian current estimate indicates they would be able to rake in a haul of 78 gold medals that may not be enough to guarantee a third place finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They may need to win between 82-90 gold medals or at least repeat their 87 gold medals haul from the Cambodia SEA Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2025 SEA Games in Thailand are scheduled to take place on 9-20 December. In total there are 50 sports and 574 match numbers contested in the multi-branch sporting event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
