{"id":4210,"date":"2025-10-06T00:46:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T16:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=4210"},"modified":"2025-10-06T00:46:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T16:46:12","slug":"bejiga-wins-with-fastest-ever-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/bejiga-wins-with-fastest-ever-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Bejiga wins with fastest ever debut"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Khairi Bejiga produced one of the fastest times in history with his 26:54 run at the tRUNsylvania 10K \u2013 a World Athletics Elite Label road race with compatriot Medina Eisa completing an Ethiopian double by winning the women\u2019s race in 30:28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just 19, Bejiga equalled the fastest ever debut over the distance and posted the second fastest time ever by an U20 runner. He was also just three seconds shy of the course record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Running aggressively and confidently from the start, Bejiga reached the halfway point in 13:34 along with another eight men. Bejiga continued to push the pace over the next two kilometres with South Africa\u2019s Maxime Chaumeton also helping out with the work at the front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bejiga and Chaumeton\u2019s rivals dropped away gradually before the young Ethiopian surged again at about eight kilometres, eventually crossing the line one second ahead of Chaumeton in 26:54. Kenya\u2019s Cornelius Kemboi completed the podium in 27:12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"tRUNsylvania International 10K 2025 Live\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1QlWBHlKhNs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the women\u2019s race, a big group of 10 athletes went through the halfway point in 15:14. With 2km to go, a group of five were still together \u2013 Eisa, the Kenyan trio of Brenda Jepchumba Kenei, Mariam Lufti Njoki and Joyciline Jepkosgei along with Turkey\u2019s former multiple European champion Yasemin Can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the pace increased over the final kilometre, former 10km world record-holder Jepkosgei was the first to break with 600 metres to go, followed quickly by Can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eisa made her decisive move with 300 metres to go and pulled clear to win in 30:28.
