The US$2 million International Series golf tournament, which was scheduled at the Chhun On Golf Club just outside Phnom Penh has been cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cambodia was supposed to be one of four series tournaments next month, with stops here and the Philippines before the Link Hong Kong Open. The event was supposed to take place from October 9 to 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Asian Tour has issued a statement to the effect following their discussions with the sponsors and promoters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn light of recent developments in the region, and in consultation with our partners at the Royal Group, the International Series Cambodia presented by Royal Group tournament will not take place as planned,\u201d said Rahul Singh, the Head of The International Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While no direct mention was made on the current border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, their mention of \u201crecent developments in the region\u201d clearly shows that being the reason behind the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Royal Group, Chhun On Golf Club, and the people of Cambodia for their support throughout the planning of this event. Our thoughts are with those affected during this complex time and we remain confident that Cambodia will provide a wonderful stage for world-class golf in the future. We look forward to the opportunity to return when circumstances allow,\u201d added Rahul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The series attract a long list of Thai player, including Series’ fifth ranked Danthai Boonma. Top 50 ranked players Atiruj Winaicharoenchai, Jazz Janewattananond, Settee Prakongvech and Chonlatit Chuenboongnam are among the other regulars on the Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
