I had 15 seconds left, but I’m here to shoot a ten in 15 seconds and it happened, we got it, so that was amazing.”

The 30 year old archer De Laat is ranked 72 in compound women world rankings but don’t read into it. That placing is more down to her lack off appearances than inconsistency with bow in hand.

She has shown to be a more than competent, elite level compounder when she is at world level events, and combined alongside world number one in the men Schloesser, she is particularly potent in the mixed team.

A vitality in the current Olympic cycle where the event makes its debut at the LA28 Olympic Games.

Just to put the Dutch team’s ruthlessness into perspective, De Laat has only entered three outdoors World Archery competitions in 25 months and won bronze at Paris 2023 Archery World Cup stage 4, gold in the Essen 2024 European Archery Championships and gold recently at Madrid Archery World Cup stage 4.

The exact same duo have a 100 per cent medal record from the past two years and it could be 75 per cent in top podiums as they have now guaranteed themselves to be on the stage final once again, this time at the iconic 5.18 Democracy Square on Sunday.

”The conditions were very sticky, but also very slippery release wise but just like I said in Madrid, it feels like we’re a great team,” added European champion De Laat. ”I hope we can get a repeat of Madrid, but we’ll see.”

”It can go either way cause all the teams are really high level at this moment but we’re definitely going to try our hardest.”

It really is a battle of the titans tomorrow as well as a tale of consistency versus quality with Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha Vennam standing in the way of the Netherlands.

The Indians broke the 144-arrow world record at Shanghai 2025 – stage 2 of the World Cup- in May and grabbed gold in Central Florida Archery World Cup stage 1 together and bronze at Madrid Archery World Cup stage 4, catapulting themselves as the number one ranked team on the planet.

Yadav and Vennam dropped just six nines out of their three matches and hit a perfect 160 [7 Xs] against helpless Germany in the second round before defeating Chinese Taipei 157-155 in the semis – Huang I-Jou and Chang Cheng Wei the athletes responsible for eliminating home nation Korea.

It will only be the second time India compete for a compound mixed team medal at a World Championships – following silver in Yankton 2021 where Jyothi featured again alongside Abhishek Verma – but much like the bridge between De Laat and Schloesser, Yadav heaped all the praise on the anchor of the team.

”I think it would be a bit biased to say we belong on the same level but she’s had many partners in the past,” said the 23 year old archer on the importance of Jyothi’s communication. ”With her experience I’m able to learn more and as a junior I really learned a lot [form her].”

”She knows how to make the wind calls so it really helps me and I’m able to pull it off as she guides.”

The Chengdu 2025 World Games bronze medallist is set to be the busiest archer in Gwangju tomorrow, competing in the individual eliminations, mixed team and men’s team finals.

Joined by Aman Saini and Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge, they are India’s first men’s team World Championship medallists which is hard to believe considering how strong and deep the country’s squads have been over the years as well as near several national trials held every year.

Fuge was one of those subject to being cut out of India’s team in the first half of the year, missing out on the first three World Cups and only making it just in time for Madrid and Gwangju – a testament of the Kamnik 2025 Veronica’s Cup champion’s self-belief.

“In the start of the year, I was working on my shooting so that’s why I was not in the team but right now I am in the team, so I’m really happy.”

The men’s team final will be thus will have an old guard against new guard element to it in terms of countries as India’s opponents France – that today included men’s individual top seed Nicolas Girard, Jean Philippe Boulch and François Dubois – booked themselves into its first World Championship gold medal match since Jakarta 1995 World Archery Championships – the very edition where compound team was first incorporated into the event and won by Les Bleus.

Mexico expectedly made it through to the women’s final but like De Laat and Schloesser had their fair share of close shaves. Becerra, Mariana Bernal and Adriana Castillo overcame France by shoot off [both 232], Denmark by one point [232-231] and then Kazakhstan also by shoot off [231-231] to edge their way in the ever humid conditions at the Gwangju International Archery Centre.

They’re up against 2019 world silver medallists USA – with Alexis Ruiz the only archer left from that team in Korea.

Compound team

Mixed team

Gold medal match: India (4) versus Netherlands (10)

Bronze medal match: Chinese Taipei (8) versus Mexico (3)

Men’s team

Gold medal match: France (5) versus India (2)

Bronze medal match: Slovenia (9) versus Türkiye (3)

Women’s team

Gold medal match: USA (4) versus Mexico (2)

Bronze medal match: Great Britain (9) versus Kazakhstan (11)

The Netherlands reached the compound mixed team gold medal match by the skin of their teeth as they

[44,7
68
post-3001","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international","category-newsbeat","tag-archery
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed.jpg",1140,641,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed-300x169.jpg",300,169,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed-768x432.jpg",640,360,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed-1024x576.jpg",640,360,true],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed.jpg",1140,641,false],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed.jpg",1140,641,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/netherlands-archery_compressed-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
International Newsbeat
["GET
