Indonesia are set to unveil four Russian origin players to beef up their challenge in the ice hockey competition at the SEA Games this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The four – Evgueni Nurislamov, Savelii Molchanov, Artem Bezrukov and Adel Khabibullin \u2013 received their Indonesian citizenship yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nurislamov played professionally in North America before moving back to Russia where he played for the Atlant Mytischi team in the Kontinental Hockey League. Aged 43, Nurislamov was appointed as the Indonesian national coach in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nineteen year old, Molchanov played in the Russian U16 and U18 leagues before joining Indonesian outfit Batavia Demons in 2023 before switching to rivals Phoenix Tangerang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Similarly, Khabibulin started his career playing in the Russian U16 and U18 leagues before joining Grizzlies Tangerang in Indonesia. The 20-year-old currently plays alongside Molchanov for the Phoenix Tangerang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lanky Bezrukov plied most of his playing career in Russia and had a short stint iin Kazakhstan. He currently plays Batavia Demons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ice hockey was first introduced to the SEA Games in 2015, when Malaysia submitted a proposal to the SEA Games Federation to include the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was approved, and the first competition was held at the 29th SEA Games, hosted by Malaysia in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was contested again in the Philippines two years later before being dropped, and now, makes a return at the Thailand Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indonesia had failed to make an impact in their previous two appearances at the Games, finishing fifth and last on both occasion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
