He faces a massive French challenge led by brothers Sebastien Patrice and Jean-Philippe Patrice. Sebastien, currently the World No. 1, has claimed two titles this season (Tunis and Incheon), while Jean-Philippe enters as the newly crowned European Champion. The brothers have yet to face each other at a World Championship, adding a layer of narrative intrigue to their respective marches through the bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other title contenders include the defending champion from Georgia – Sandro Bazadze, who made history in 2025 by winning his country\u2019s first-ever fencing world title. He returns to defend his crown. Bazadze has consistently featured on podiums this season and remains as hungry as ever to repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rising Stars, American Colin Heathcock and Egyptian teenager Ahmed Hesham have enjoyed breakout campaigns. American William Morrill has emerged as a consistent threat, collecting two individual gold medals this season with a surge of form towards the campaign\u2019s end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tactical threats also comes from France\u2019s Maxime Pianfetti, who took silver at the European Championships. He joins the Russian duo of Kamil Ibragimov and Kamil Graudyn as dark horses capable of upsetting the favourites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reigning Olympic champions South Korea arrive as the team to beat, boasting an unmatched pedigree that includes three recent Olympic gold medals (2012, 2020, 2024). Although they suffered a rare off-season in 2025, the South Koreans have reestablished dominance by winning the Asian Championships and two World Cup events this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their primary opposition is a trio of traditional powerhouses – France, Hungary and the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite their bronze-medal finish at the Europeans, France has been remarkably consistent, capturing three World Cup team titles this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hungarians are a constant fixture in major finals, reaching the gold medal match in six of their last seven World Championships. They also enter as the three-time reigning European Champions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Americans are a consistent podium threat, led by the youthful excellence of Heathcock and Morrill, and will be spurred on by yet another Pan American Championship title this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Egypt, fresh off an African Championship title, remains a major wild card, while Romania and Russia have proven throughout the season that they can topple any top-tier team in a head-to-head encounter.
