Eric Cole carded an eagle from 65 yards on the par-5 13th to post a 7-under 63 and take a one-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler and five others at the Travelers Championship golf tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Newly crowned US Open champion Wyndham Clark only blemish in his round of 68 was in the 12th hole where he made triple bogey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scheffler, who hasn’t won since his first start of the year in January, at least got off to a good start. He played bogey-free in an efficient round of 64 that left him one shot behind, along with Matt Fitzpatrick, Ben Griffin, Nico Echavarria, Bud Cauley and Kristoffer Reitan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cole seeking his first Tour title knows well that holding a first round lead means nothing if he is not able to maintain the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He shared the first-round lead two weeks ago at the Canadian Open. He followed up a 64 in round one with a 76 to become the first player to hold at least a share of the 18-hole lead and go on to miss the cut since Jordan Spieth at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scheffler, the world number one is searching for his 21st Tour title as well as his second this season and is poised to strike. Champion here two years ago, Scheffler had won the American Express earlier this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cauley came into the tournament, two weeks after capturing his first TOUR victory at the Canadian Open, and looks to be in fine form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The season\u2019s only three-time winner Fitzpatrick has improved in each of his four prior Travelers Championship starts (MC\/2020, T49\/2023, T36\/2024, T17\/2025) and will be looking to be one better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two time champion Bradley is bidding to become the first player since Phil Mickelson (2001-2002) to win consecutive Travelers Championship titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clark is seeking to become the first player to win a major championship and then a PGA TOUR event the following week since Scheffler (2024 Masters Tournament, 2024 RBC Heritage). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Milford, Connecticut native James, who earned PGA TOUR membership as the No. 1 player from the 2026 PGA TOUR University Ranking, is in his first Travelers Championship start as a professional and third overall.
