The British-French pairing of Harrison Payne (ARS Yamaha) and Kevin Rousseau moved another step closer to regaining the crown they lost last season after dominating both races at round three of the FIM Sidecar World Championship, staged over a scorching weekend at the Pau-Arnos Circuit in South West France where for once it was sun \u2013 not rain \u2013 that stopped play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading vastly-experienced Finnish rider Pekka P\u00e4iv\u00e4rinta (ARS Yamaha) and his British passenger Adam Christie by just four points at the start of the weekend, Payne\/Rousseau extended their advantage to eleven-and-a-half points after racing to a pair of victories in an abbreviated programme as a heatwave swept the region.

Qualifying on pole, Payne\/Rousseau led the field into the first corner of Saturday’s Sprint race chased by P\u00e4iv\u00e4rinta-Christie and the defending champions Sam and Thomas Christie (LCR Yamaha) ahead of a chasing pack that included two-time champions Todd Ellis (ARS Yamaha) from Great Britain and his French passenger Emmanuelle Cl\u00e9ment along with the Swiss-German pairing of Markus Schlosser (LCR Yamaha) and Lucas Krieg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BritishFrench team of Tim Reeves (ARS Yamaha) and Melanie Farnier were also in touch along with local heroes Paul Leglise (LCR Yamaha) and passenger Marjorie Cescutti before contact between Schlosser and Reeves put the British rider off the track and cost both crews a number of positions.

The action at the front was even hotter than the soaring track temperatures as P\u00e4iv\u00e4rinta-Christie, with the Christie brothers chasing hard, poured the pressure on 2024 champions Payne-Rousseau and looked in vain to make a decisive pass while fourth-placed Ellis-Cl\u00e9ment were struggling to find grip as they attempted to keep the leading trio within striking distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After following P\u00e4iv\u00e4rinta-Christie home in both races at round two held last month in Grobnik-Rijeka in Croatia, Payne-Rousseau returned to the top step of the podium with a winning margin of just over two seconds ahead of the Finnish five-time FIM Sidecar Rider World Champion and his British passenger before a gap of more than eight-and-a-half seconds to the reigning champions.

Ellis-Cl\u00e9ment were next across the line ahead of Leglise-Cescutti who were a season-best fifth with the Dutch crew of Bennie Streuer (ARS Yamaha) and Manon Vissenberg completing the top six as Reeves-Farnier fought their way from last up to eighth, one position and just under three seconds ahead of a disappointed Schlosser and Krieg.

The following day’s Main race was shortened to fourteen laps and rescheduled for the morning to avoid the searing afternoon heat and once again it was Payne-Rousseau who led P\u00e4iv\u00e4rinta-Christie into the first turn with Schlosser-Krieg getting a much better start this time around in third.

The Christie brothers held an initial fourth ahead of Ellis-Cl\u00e9ment, Reeves-Farnier and Streuer-Vissenberg, but the already abbreviated race was red-flagged when Ellis-Cl\u00e9ment suffered a high-speed crash at the start of lap five.

Following a decision not to stage a restart, the race was called with Payne-Rousseau taking the win from P\u00e4iv\u00e4rinta-Christie and the Christie brothers with Schlosser-Krieg fourth from Leglise-Cescutti and Streuer-Vissenberg with half points awarded to all scorers.

The 2026 FIM Sidecar World Championship now enters the second half of the campaign with round four scheduled for Cremona in Italy on 7-9 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Junior Ethan Lane secures his first Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura win; Laurels for Sampaio in Quads<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Temperatures flirted with 39\u00b0C in a heatwave in Badajoz at the weekend and riders also had to contend with dust at Spain’s Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura, round three of the FIM Bajas World Cup.

They faced a 4.3km Prologue and two 211km loops of special stages. The final special stage had to be shortened by half to stay on schedule.

Like a repeat of last year, it was another young Briton who won the Baja in Spain – Ethan Lane! Alex McInnes, the favourite, crashed on the Prologue and had to relinquish his title to his compatriot. In the quad category, Portugal was in the spotlight with victory for Jorge Sampaio.

On the start line of the 4.3 km Prologue at Campo Maior, there were 18 FIM riders \u2013 14 motorcycles and four quads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year’s young winner Alex McInnes (KTM) was the first to start without a hitch on the gravel track but the Briton crashed and was taken to hospital, resulting in a maximum time penalty and last place. It was a disastrous start to the race for the Briton. Uninjured and reclassified at the start in 10th<\/sup> position for safety reasons, McInnes came back stronger on Saturday morning and easily won the first stage. Unfortunately, due to his penalty, he remained at the back of the pack in the overall standings.

The incredible Sara Garcia led the provisional standings at the end of the first stage on her Yamaha. But Prologue winner Ethan Lane (KTM) regained the lead and won the shortened second stage.

Sara Garcia, nevertheless, finished in a very respectable second overall, followed by Paulo Cardoso (Kove), Abdulhalim Al-Mogheera (KTM), and Mohammed Al-Balooshi (Husqvarna).

There was bad luck for Hungarian rider Richard Hodola, who fractured his toe in the first stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victory fell to Portuguese rider Jorge Sampaio in the quad category. He finished ahead of Ahmed Al-Jaber and Abdulaziz Al-Atawi. Hani Al-Noumesi experienced mechanical problems and started the second loop outside his time limit. Matteo Bottino (Kove) won the Trail category.

Sara Garcia topped the standings in the Women’s category, ahead of Joanna Modrzewska. Ethan Lane also won the Juniors, the Briton finishing ahead of McInnes and Antonio Feliciano.

Paulo Cardoso was the top Veteran and completed the event ahead of Mohammed Al-Balooshi and Joanna Modrzewska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
