Cuba\u2019s Jorge A. Hodel\u00edn soared 8.46m to break the world U20 long jump record at the Envol Troph\u00e9e, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meeting, in Pierre-B\u00e9nite, France, on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 19-year-old, who finished fourth in the world indoor final in March, surpassed his previous PB of 8.34m that he achieved last year to improve the world U20 record of 8.38m set by Italy\u2019s Mattia Furlani in Rome in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hodel\u00edn\u2019s record-breaking leap came in the second round of a series that included two other jumps beyond eight metres. He opened with 8.06m (1.6m\/s) and then jumped 8.46m (1.9m\/s) from his second attempt before a wind-assisted 8.07m (2.3m\/s) in the third round. He fouled his next attempt and then retired from the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mark places Hodel\u00edn joint third on this year\u2019s world top list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three athletes cleared 5.82m in the men\u2019s pole vault, Thibaut Collet clinching the win on countback. Anthony Ammirati was second and 18-year-old Zackaria Dia was third, adding 12 centimetres to his PB to improve Ammirati\u2019s French U20 record and move to second on the world U20 all-time list between world U20 record-holder Mondo Duplantis and Ammirati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
