{"id":13433,"date":"2026-06-04T22:15:02","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T15:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=13433"},"modified":"2026-06-04T22:15:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T15:15:06","slug":"top-malaysian-doubles-and-both-chinese-singles-aces-crash-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/top-malaysian-doubles-and-both-chinese-singles-aces-crash-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Malaysian doubles and both Chinese singles aces crash out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">Former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik joined the growing list of high profile players, including men&#8217;s singles top seed Shi Yuqi, to exit the Indonesian Open badminton championships at the Istora Senayan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Also crashing out of reigning All-England champion Wang Zhiyi of China in the women\u2019s singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The second seeded Malaysian pair bowed out tamely 14-21, 14-21 to Indonesian upstarts Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin in just 33-minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Indonesian pair will now take on eighth seeded Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">World number one Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae, whose 35-match winning streak came to an end at the hands of India\u2019s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in Singapore, continued their revival moving into the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Korean duo defeated French siblings Christo Popov-Toma Junior Popov 21-17, 21-17 their second round tie. Won-ho-Seung-jae will take on another pair of siblings in the quarter-finals. Taiwanese Lee Fang-Chih-Lee Fang-Jen will be their rivals in the last eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It was another disappointing outing for second seeded Zhiyi as she was beaten 16-21, 22-24 by Korean Sim Yu-jin. The Korean, despite being ranked only 26<sup>th<\/sup> in the world increased her head-to-head record against Zhiyi to 4-2. It is her third successive win over the Chinese star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Likewise, her teammate Yuqi crashed to a 16-21, 11-21 defeat to Japan&#8217;s Yushi Tanaka in the men;s singles. It was the first time in four meetings that Yuqi had been beaten by Tanaka. The French number two defeated Malaysian Leong Jun Hao 21-16, 21-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">However, it was the end of the road for Chinese seventh seed Li Shifeng, who crashed out 21-18, 6-21, 12-21 to Thailand\u2019s unheralded Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul. Shifeng had beaten his rival at the Malaysian Masters in straight games earlier last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Lanier will cross swords with Panitchaphon in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It was a great day for the Indonesian women\u2019s doubles with all their three pairs making it to the quarter-finals. The surprise package was the unseeded duo Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, who stunned seventh seeds Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En-Tzu of Chinese Taipei 13-21, 21-17, 21-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Indonesia will have at least one pair in the semi-finals as Febriana-Meilysa will take on compatriots Rachel Allessya Rose-Febi Setianingrum next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the mixed doubles, the husband-and-wife pairing of Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai pulled off an upset victory over Indonesia&#8217;s world No. 9 Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu 21-15, 21-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Also out in the mixed doubles are the seventh seeded Hong Kong pairing of Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.
