{"id":12792,"date":"2026-05-12T08:19:03","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T01:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=12792"},"modified":"2026-05-12T08:19:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T01:19:05","slug":"svay-rieng-on-the-cusp-of-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/svay-rieng-on-the-cusp-of-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Svay Rieng on the cusp of history"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng and Kuwait will both be seeking to create history when they\u00a0 square off in the final of the AFC Challenge League final tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Kuwait are seeking a fourth continental trophy, Cambodia&#8217;s Svay Rieng are bidding for their first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final will be played at the 60,000 capacity Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium and it is expected to be filled to the brim.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cambodian side suffered heartbreak at the same stage last year, falling to a 2-1 defeat against Turkmenistan&#8217;s FK Arkadag but have shown tremendous self belief to storm into the final again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Svay Rieng will have the advantage in terms of big game experience, having featured in last year&#8217;s AFC Challenge League final. Kuwait&#8217;s last appearance in a continental final was when they won the third of their AFC Cup 12-years-ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decider has all the ingredients to be a high-scoring affair with both teams having had no difficulty in finding the back of the net, with Svay Rieng hitting a tournament-high 18 goals and Kuwait 13, having played two matches less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Kwame-Peprah-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Kwame-Peprah-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Kwame-Peprah-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Kwame-Peprah-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Kwame-Peprah.jpg 1094w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Kwame Peprah <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Svay Rieng&#8217;s Kwame Peprah leads the goalscoring chart with eight goals and the Ghanaian looks set to clinch the Top Scorer award. Kuwait, however, will be focused on not letting the forward add to his haul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peprah also leads the shots charts with 22 while teammate Patrick Robson Monteiro is a close second with 21. Kuwait&#8217;s Mohammad Daham Khader Abdullah has also had his fair share with 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monteiro and Abdullah are &#8211; together with Dewa United&#8217;s Egy Maulana Vikri &#8211; the joint-leaders in the assists department with four each and their respective teams will be hopeful both are in form for the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Svay Rieng have been more solid defensively, conceding just five times in the seven matches they played to reach the final. Kuwait were weaker at the back, with their defence having been breached seven times in the five games played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Svay Rieng have kept three clean sheets enroute to the final while Kuwait SC managed only one but both sides can be expected to be defensively solid as they seek to lay their hands on the coveted trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Svey Rieng road to the final<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Svay Rieng kicked off their campaign in the best possible fashion, cruising to a 3-0 win against Mongolia&#8217;s SP Falcons, with Peprah netting a brace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patrick, Takashi Odawara and Yudai Ogawa were on the scoresheet as another 3-0 victory &#8211;
